Computer Science Research guide: Citation Styles

Definition

A citation is a reference to a published or unpublished source.   

Reasons to cite your work is to:

  • Give credit to the authors who created the work that you used in your research;
  • Prevent plagiarism;
  • Allow people to find your resources to locate more information, and or delve deeper into your own research.

There are two citation styles generally used in Computer Science research.  These are ACM and IEEE styles.

ACM Citation Style
