Overview

Overview of Managing the event log: Event logs maintain a record of changes made in the Grades tool. The logs can be useful when auditing a grade book, managing updates made by teaching assistants, and discussing grades with learners. 

Overview of Import grades items: 
To import grades, users access the Enter Grades page and select "Import." They then choose the file to import and can opt to create new grade items if necessary. After selecting the file and specifying item creation preferences, users proceed to fill in grade item properties. Finally, users review any error messages before continuing to ensure a smooth import process.

Overview Export grade: To export your Grade Book from Brightspace, navigate to the Grades section and click on "Export" in the Enter Grades tab. Choose whether to export grade items for all users or specific groups/sections, and select the learner identifier and sorting preferences. Customize the export further by selecting grade values, user details, grade categories, and items. Finally, select the desired file type (CSV or Excel), initiate the export, and download the exported grades for printing if needed.

About event logs

  1. Event logs maintain a record of changes made in the Grades tool. The logs can be useful when auditing a grade book, managing updates made by teaching assistants, and discussing grades with learners.

  2. User Grade event logs record all of the changes made to a particular user's grades.
  3. Grade Item event logs record changes to grades on a single grade item.
  4. Final Grade event logs record changes to users’ final grades.
  5. Manage Grades event logs record changes made to the properties or restrictions of a specific grade item.
  6. Restoring Grade Item event logs record the date and time a grade item is created or removed, and the user who performs the action.

Access the event log for restoring grade items

On the Manage Grades page, from the More Actions button select Event Log. If you want to restore Numeric, Select box, Pass/Fail, or Text grade items that were removed, beside the item's name, click Restore.

Access the event log for changes to a grade item's properties or restrictions

On the Manage Grades page, from the context menu of the category or grade item you want to view, select Event Log.

Access the event log for a user's final grades

On the Enter Grades page, from the context menu of the Final Calculated Grade or Final Adjusted Grade item, select Enter Grades. In the Event Log column for the desired user, select the Event Log icon.

Access the event log for an individual grade item

On the Manage Grades page, from the context menu of the grade item you want to access the event log for, select Enter Grades. From the context menu of the grade item’s name, select Event Log.

Access the event log for a user

On the Enter Grades page, click the name of the user you want to access the event log for. From the context menu of the user’s name, select Event Log.

  1. Select the "Assessments" dropdown from the navigation bar, and then proceed to click on "Grades."

Grading Option

  1. On the Enter Grades page, click Import.

  1. Click Chose File.
  2. Locate the file you want to import and click Open.
  3. Select Create new grade item when an unrecognized item is referenced if you want to be able to create new grade items from the import file.
  4. Click Continue.

  1. If you are creating new grade items:
    • Select the Create New Grade Item check box beside each of the items you want to create.
    • Select a grade item Type.
    • Click Continue.
  2. Step 2 create new grade items

    • Fill in the grade items’ properties.
    • Click Continue.

  1. View error and warning messages associated with the import, and click Continue.

You can export your Grade Book from Brightspace as a .CSV or Excel file, offering flexibility in data management and seamless integration with other platforms.

  1. Select the "Assessments" dropdown from the navigation bar, and then proceed to click on "Grades."

  1. On the Enter Grades page, click Export.

  1. In the Export Options area, do the following:
  • From the Export Grade Items For drop-down list, select who you want to export grade items for.

  • Select the Key Field you want to use to identify users.

  • From the Sort By drop-down list, select the sorting order of the fields that appear in the exported file.

  • Select the Grade Values and User Details you want to export.

  1. In the Choose Grades to Export area, select the grade items you want to export.

  1. Click Export to CSV or Export to Excel. A pop-up window appears. Click on the file link to download it.

Note: If a student is enrolled in multiple groups within a Group Category, or multiple sections within a course, those enrollments are exported as a comma-separated list within a cell.
