Quizzes Overview

Overview of Creating Quizzes: Build quizzes using varying question types. Create quizzes that randomly select questions from a question pool or that shuffle the order of questions. The Create a quiz page has a fully immersive page layout. This layout is consistent with other areas of Brightspace including Quizzes, Content, and Lessons, where you can create and configure a Quiz.

Quiz Restrictions: including start, due, and end dates, regulate quiz accessibility and completion deadlines for learners. Late submissions occur if quizzes are submitted after the due date, while exceeding the time limit results in the quiz being marked as such.

      • Click Save (to return to the main Question Editor page), or Save and New (to create a new question that is the same type as the current question being created), or Save and Copy (to create a new question that is a copy of the current question being created).
      • Add more questions and observe that you can use the handlers to drag and re-order the questions.
      • Select Section.
        • Enter the section title and section text and select the respective check boxes if you want to hide the section tile and/or section text from learners.
        • To shuffle the order of questions within a specific section, select the Shuffle questions in this section check box.
        • On the main Quiz Builder page, use the Add or Import button to create or import questions for use within the section. Note that questions are added to the bottom of the list at the root level. Use the handles beside the question name to drag questions to the appropriate place within the section.
      • Select Question Pool.
        • Enter a Question Pool Title.
        • Specify the number of questions from the pool that you want to appear to learners and how many points learners will receive for each question they answer correctly. The appropriate number of questions will be chosen randomly for each quiz attempt.
        • Click Browse Question Library to search for and select the questions or the entire section of questions you want to add, and click Import.
Note: If you selected a section, all the questions in that entire section appear in your question pool.
        • Click Save.
  6. If you want to align the selected questions to learning outcomes, for each question, click More Actions > Align to Standards. Then, choose the outcomes you want to align and click Add. Note that any alignments appear in all quizzes where the question appears within the same course offering.
  7. When you are done adding and reordering questions in the Quiz Builder interface, click Back to Settings for your quiz.
  8. Once you have added the questions, do any of the following:
    • To display a set number of questions per page, specify the number of questions in the Questions per page text box, and click Apply.

    • To prevent learners from moving to previous pages, select the Prevent moving backwards through pages check box.

    • To discourage cheating in quizzes, you can shuffle the order of all questions in quizzes or specific groups of questions (sections) by selecting the Shuffle order of questions at the quiz level check box. For example, you could shuffle questions 1-10 in a quiz, or shuffle questions 3-10 (grouping those questions into a section) and retain the order of questions 1-2 at the start of the quiz. When a quiz contains shuffled questions, each learner receives a quiz with a unique question order.
Note: Shuffling the order of questions at the quiz level also shuffles the order of all sections in the quiz.

  9. In the Optional Advanced Properties area, do any of the following:

      • Allow the student to continue working to allow the learner to continue working on the quiz without any penalty.

      • Prevent the student from making further changes to not allow the quiz to save any additional questions.

      • Allow the student to continue working, but automatically score the attempt as zero after an extended deadline to allow the learner to continue to work on the quiz, but the entire quiz score will be marked as zero.
