Assess Discussions Overview

Overview of Assessing a Discussion Topic: The page assess a discussion topic shows the steps to assess the discussions and publish the scores of a individual users.

Overview of Assessing Individual Discussion Topic Responses: If you want to assess the individual responses of a discussion, you can do that by following the steps mentioned in this page.

Assess Discussion Topics

  1. On the navbar, click Discussions.

  1. From the context menu of the topic you want to assess, click Assess Topic.

  1. On the Assess Topic page, do one of the following:
  • To publish scores for specific users, select the Draft check box in the Status column beside each user whose score you want to release. Click Save.
  • To publish scores for all users, click Publish All Scores. Click Yes.
  1. On the navbar, select Discussions.

  1. In the Actions menu of your discussion topic, click Edit Topic.

  1. On the Edit Topic page, expand the Evaluation & Feedback accordion.
  2. Select Allow evaluation of individual posts. Select your Calculation Method.

Evaluation and Feedback

  1. Click Save and Close.

You have enabled the evaluation of individual posts for your discussion topic.

  1. On the navbar, select Discussions.

  1. From the context menu of the topic you want to assess, select Assess Topic. If the Score column is empty on the Assess Topic page, select Manage Columns, select the Score Value check box and select Save.

Assess topic

  1. Do one of the following:
  • In the Users tab, select Topic Score for the name of the user you want to assess.
  • In the Assessments tab, select the name of the user you want to assess.
  1. In the Topic Score Details window, do any of the following:
  • If Allow assessment of individual posts is enabled, enter a value in the Score column beside each post you want to assess.
  • If Allow assessment of individual posts is not enabled, assign a value in the Topic Score to reflect the learner's participation in the whole topic.
  • Complete each rubric with a level and feedback for each criterion.
  • In the General Feedback field, enter any comments that you have.
  1. Click Save Draft to retain the assessment results and publish at a later time. Click Publish to immediately release the assessment results to the learner in Assignments, Discussions, Grades, Content, and User Progress simultaneously.

Note: If you exceed the field limitations for the Overall Grade or Overall Feedback fields, you cannot click Publish or Save Draft.
