Spring 2020 FAQ

Are CSU Libraries still open? 

**Beginning Friday, April 3**

We are CLOSED until further notice in compliance with the State of Georgia Shelter-in-Place order.  We will update this guide when there are changes. 

Can I print/use the computer lab in the library? 

No, CSU Libraries are CLOSED until further notice beginning Friday, April 3. 

 
I need a laptop for my classes.  What do I do? 

Please email the UITS Help Desk, helpdesk@columbusstate.edu.

 

I don't have internet access at home.  Are there any services available? 

Yes, several community partners are offering free internet services to K-12 and college students.

Important Note: These services are in no way connected to Columbus State.  Please read all connection details before signing up for internet with these community partners.

Charter Spectrum: Charter is offering 60 Days of free internet services beginning March 16. All installation fees are waived. 

Comcast: Comcast is offering 60 Days of free internet service to low-income households.  Must apply by April 30. 

Can I check out books? 

We are currently closed, but our librarians will be happy to help you find alternate electronic resources.  Check the "Contact the Library" tab to get in touch with your liaison librarian

 

I'm out of town for the rest of the semester. How can I return my books? 

CSU books can be returned to any one of the 26 USG institutions.  Just drop the book(s) off at their library and it will be sent back to CSU Libraries.

 

Are GIL Express and ILL services still running? 

GIL Express and ILL services are POSTPONED until further notice. Contact your liaison librarian for information on available electronic resources.  

I need to talk to a librarian about my research project.  

Librarians are still happy to help you with all of your coursework.  All librarian contact information is available under the "Contact the Library" tab. 

 
Can I talk to a librarian online? 

Definitely.  We will be utilizing services such as Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom to assist you wherever you are. 

Chat Hours (LibChat on the Library homepage): Monday - Friday, 10 AM - 6 PM. 

 

Is the Archive still open? 

Archives and Special Collections are CLOSED until further notice in compliance with the State of Georgia Shelter-In-Place Order beginning Friday, April 3.  You can contact the Archives @ owings_david@columbusstate.edu or merrell_jessie@columbusstate.edu.

Is the Library still offering library instruction? 

Yes, we can offer virtual instruction to your classes.  Contact your liaison librarian or Thomas Ganzevoort, Head of Library Instruction, for more information.  We are also compiling library instruction resources and will post them on this guide when they are ready.
